A few quick updates

A few quick updates

It’s been a number of weeks since I last sent this newsletter and hopefully during those weeks you’ve seen growth in your companies, success in your storytelling, and a strong run into these summer months.

So here are a few quick updates both for the newsletter and things that might interest you to help you in your storytelling, fundraising, and communication.

First, I re-edited my book to add in some new frameworks and tactics that I’m seeing resonate this year with my founder and CEO clients. As a result it should be out by middle of July. I will send the pre-order link in the coming weeks and would love your support as I launch it.

The amount of time and energy that goes into writing a book (especially as a perfectionist) is hard to quantify.

But I know it will be worth it and I poured all of my strongest held beliefs and views on world-class storytelling and communication into it.

Second, over the past 12 months I’ve listened to the clients I work with as we’ve expanded the role I play with them. While many of you know I’ve worked with founders and CEOs to raise now $750,000,000 that is a piece of what I do with them. They started asking if I wanted to be a fractional chief communication officer for them and cover much more than just the narrative strategy and execution inside of a fundraise.

As a result that’s really led me to focus on who I work with. Doing that analysis made it clear that it’s founders/CEOs of post Series A through IPO companies inside of the AI, climate tech, and deep tech space.

Yes we still work through fundraising (right now have rounds worth around 150m out in market) and we’ve created a sliding scale of services to meet the needs of clients as that fractional chief communication officer.

I’ll share more on that in the coming weeks as there will be a new company name and some other updates (including an incredible partner joining me) there around our strategic communications firm.

If you think you might want to work with us and have us as your fractional CCO, reach out and we can talk more.

Third, I created a lot of content over the past 18 months on YT, LI, and this newsletter on ways to be a better storyteller, fundraiser, and communicator. While I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned and what’s working, it’s not my core business. My core business is working hand in hand with the world’s most ambitious and brilliant founders and CEOs.

So I’ve been massively scaling back the content I create. I’ll still send occasional newsletters, make occasional videos for LI or YT, and share some thoughts on LI, but it will be far less.

I want to go deep into topics and that’s why I’ll be focusing my creative energy on the second book I’m writing (crazy since this first one took so much to get out the door).

Finally, because I do still want to share ideas, meet interesting people, and create more accessible entry points for people on tighter budgets, I’m doing a 3 day live event with my friend Anric Blatt. Anric has raised multiple billions of dollars for hedge funds, wealth managers, and fund of funds. He is a wealth of experience and expertise.

The live event will be held virtually June 12-14. It’s called Raising Capital Live. I’ll be teaching 3 different stories you need to raise capital. The Origin Story, the Vision Story, and the Validation Story.

I’d love to see many of you there as it’s going to be a wealth of tactical insights and effective strategies to help you in your next fundraise.

You can check it out here or get a taste in this 5 day video series we put together that goes a bit into the things you’ll learn.

I’ll leave you with one quote I found interesting recently. Sam Altman was giving advice to founders the other day and he said this:

“You just have to relentlessly say, ‘This is what we are doing, this is why, and this is how we’re going to do it.’ And that part - the communication and evangelizing of the company vision and goals- is time-wise by far the biggest part of the job.”

When you’re ready to nail that part, send me an email or dm.
