Storytelling that raises capital
Why all the advice you've read online is hurting your chances
Greetings, Chief Storytelling Officers.
Everything you've been told so far about fundraising are lies.
Well, except for here. In my old life as a trial lawyer I learned the phrase “keep it 100.”
So that’s what we do here but the others…
People have been feeding you the same old line about needing a pitch deck, a fancy PowerPoint presentation, or a detailed business plan. But let me set the record straight: what you really need to raise money is a captivating story that ignites people's emotions and makes them feel like they can't afford to miss out.
Let me explain why I'm so fired up about this.
You see, investors are just people, like you and me. And guess what? People make decisions based on their emotions.
All day long.
So, if you want to grab their attention and secure that investment, you have to paint a vivid picture of the future and make them feel like they absolutely have to be a part of it.
Think back to the days when the Americas were discovered and everyone rushed over here for the gold rush. That's the kind of excitement and opportunity you want to evoke.
Forget about pitch decks.
They're cold, impersonal, and they shove investors right into their logical, skeptical minds. And you know what they start looking for? Red flags.
They're just waiting for a reason to say no. Instead, you need to keep them engaged in their emotional brain and let their imagination run wild. You want them to do the heavy lifting by using the most powerful tool in human history: storytelling.
Pitch decks, PowerPoint presentations, they didn't exist back in the day when businesses were built from the ground up.
And guess what?
You don't need them now either.
Let's get real here. You're building something that doesn't exist yet, or maybe it's in the early stages. The vision starts becoming reality when you cross the billion dollar valuation threshold.
Sure, you can predict a few things, but what you're really selling is the vision of what your venture will look like in five or ten years.
Picture yourself standing on the New York Stock Exchange, ringing the bell together, and your investor proudly tweeting about being an early investor.
They believed in you because they heard your story and believed in YOU, not because they saw your pitch deck.
So, don't buy into the lies any longer.
Tell a story, my friend. And make sure it's filled with emotion. Trust me, when you weave emotional storytelling into your pitch, you can raise millions, even hundreds of millions. I know this because I've seen my own entrepreneurs do it.
This is my highly opinionated, bull AND bear market tested approach.
It works because it’s focused on human nature and psychology. Investors can’t fight it…even if they tried.
Just this week two of the founders I work with closed their rounds. One seed and one series A.
Please for all that is good in this world use world-class storytelling to make your company irresistible.
I want you to win. I want to win. I want all of us to win.
